The Buggy Reservation System
Before going into the depth, let’s start with a story. The story of the great Ant and the supreme Grasshopper. You might have heard this story somewhere, but you won’t mind reading it again. Here it goes:
Ant and Grasshopper - Indian Version of story - too good and fact
The Ant works hard in the withering heat all summer building its house andlaying up supplies for the winter. The Grasshopper thinks the Ant is a fool
and laughs dances plays the summer away. Come winter, the Ant is warm and
well fed. The Grasshopper has no food or shelter so he dies out in the
cold.
Indian Version:
The Ant works hard in the withering heat all summer building its house andlaying up supplies for the winter. The Grasshopper thinks the Ant's a fool
and laughs dances plays the summer away.
Come winter, the shivering Grasshopper calls a press conference and demands
to know why the Ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others
are cold and starving.
NDTV, BBC, CNN show up to provide pictures of the shivering Grasshopper
next to a video of the Ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with
food.
The World is stunned by the sharp contrast. How can this be that this poor
Grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?
Arundhati Roy stages a demonstration in front of the Ant's house.
Medha Patkar goes on a fast along with other Grasshoppers demanding that
Grasshoppers be relocated to warmer climates during winter .
Mayawati states this as 'injustice' done on Minorities.
Amnesty International and Koffi Annan criticize the Indian Government for
not upholding the fundamental rights of the Grasshopper.
The Internet is flooded with online petitions seeking support to the
Grasshopper (many promising Heaven and Everlasting Peace for prompt support
as against the wrath of God for non-compliance).
Opposition MPs stage a walkout. Left parties call for 'Bengal Bandh' in
West Bengal and Kerala demanding a Judicial Enquiry.
CPM in Kerala immediately passes a law preventing Ants from working hard in
the heat so as to bring about equality of poverty among Ants and
Grasshoppers.
Lalu Prasad allocates one free coach to Grasshoppers on all Indian Railway
Trains, aptly named as the ‘Grasshopper Rath'.
Finally, the Judicial Committee drafts the'Prevention of Terrorism Against
Grasshoppers Act'[POTAGA] , with effect from the beginning of the winter..
Arjun Singh makes ‘Special Reservation’ for Grasshoppers in Educational
Institutions in Government Services.
The Ant is fined for failing to comply with POTAGA and having nothing left
to pay his retroactive taxes, it's home is confiscated by the Government
and handed over to the Grasshopper in a ceremony covered by NDTV, BBC, CNN.
Arundhati Roy calls it ‘A Triumph of Justice'.
Lalu calls it ‘Socialistic Justice'.
CPM calls it the 'Revolutionary Resurgence of the Downtrodden'
Koffi Annan invites the Grasshopper to address the UN General Assembly.
Many years later...
The Ant has since migrated to the US and set up a multi-billion dollar
company in Silicon Valley,
100s of Grasshoppers still die of starvation despite reservation somewhere
in India,
....AND
As a result of losing lot of hard working Ants and feeding the
grasshoppers.
No more words are needed to explain the situation.
We live in a country where your place of birth and your religion helps you more than your talent to get the best universities and colleges, the best and most earning jobs, and even promotions in your jobs. A country where worthy poor children from General category are not admitted anywhere just because the benefits are being enjoyed by some rich Reserved candidates.
You all are aware of the definition of Democracy:
“A government of the people, for the people, and by the people.”
Indian Version: India is a country where laws are passed:
“Of the reserved, for the reserved, and by the reserved.”
I read a post somewhere on reservation. The idea was to introduce reservation for Indian Cricket Team. If such a law is passed, would we demand ICC, that “a six distance which is 100m for General must be 80m for SC/ST people. If some SC/ST hits a 100m, it must be 8 runs. No bowler would be allowed to bowl more than 80kmph to them, after all they are reserved. The running distance between the wickets should be reduced to 70%. They cannot be given LBW”. You may find the scenario funny, but believe me, this is what it is like in today’s India.
If the politicians are so kind towards reservation, why don’t they pass a law like “Only reserved people have the privilege to treat VIPs”, or something like “Only reserved people will be admitted for the security of all the politicians”.
What basically this reservation is? In my words, I call it “A backdoor for some people when all others are using the front door”.
You all must be aware of the joke between Obama and Manmohan Singh. If not, here it is:
Obama: “We’ve sent 5 astronauts on moon, 2 are excellent Computer Engineers, 2 are Aeronautical Engineers, and 1 is Mechanical Engineer”.
Manmohan Singh: “We’ve also sent 5 astronauts. 2 are from SC, 2 from ST, and 1 is Physically Handicapped”.
All these were kind of National matters. Now let me share my own experience.
We all know that the first coach in Delhi Metro has been reserved for ladies. One day, I was on my route from Rajiv Chowk to Gurgaon, but what I saw was unforgettable. In the ladies coach, all girls and women were sitting just except one old woman of about 80. She was too old to stand and still none of the girls, or any other woman stood up to offer her seat to the old lady. I was humiliated within myself n felt guilty. What’s the use of reserving seats for those who don’t even have humanity. I know females will find this paragraph against them and might consider me to be some stupid man disrespecting them, but then all I shared was my personal experience.
Isn’t it strange that everyone keeps boasting that “All men are equal, All are children from same God, Everyone is made from same sand, etc, etc.” But when it comes to reality, 50 seats in a College, 8 reserved for SC, 8 for ST, 7 for OBC, and 2 for PH. For admission, 10 apply for SC, 8 for ST, 5 for OBC, 1 for PH, and for the rest 25 seats, there are 100 General candidates standing in line.
With this post, I didn't want to start some kind of fight against reserved people, or to abuse them. All I wanted was just to make everyone aware of our India, a developing India.

I m agree with u..//
ReplyDeleteThanks @raj kaushik. Thanks a lot.
DeleteThe politicians and media dare not talk about is our Judiciary. For decades 30% appointment of the Judges are not done. Our Judicial system is in a mess. WHY NO BODY IS TALKING ABOUT IT.
ReplyDeleteI have failed to understand whose responsibility it is to fix it.
Is Parliament going to fix it, or the JUSTICES.
The Judicial suppose to be a separate body according to the constitution, so it is the responsibility of the Administrator of the Justice System to fix it. I wonder who is that.
Filing a case in Indian court for a common man is a big JOKE. I wonder if the JUDGES and JUSTICES OR CHIEF JUSTICE are not aware of the situation.
The court system in general for common man in India or no better than the system in the THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES.
I want to hear comments on this topic.
